Types of Contact Status

There are 5 types of Contact status in FluentCRM. The status will be changed automatically based on the audience’s response, also you can change them manually.

Pending #

Someone who has interacted with your lead source, but hasn’t opted in to receive your email. This is the default status of an audience. All pending audiences will get a double opt-in email to confirm their subscription. This is required by GDPR policy and is very useful to avoid spammer.

Subscribed #

Someone who has opted in from your lead sources and also confirmed the double opt-in email you sent.

Unsubscribed #

Someone who was opted in to receive your email marketing campaign but currently opted out.

Bounced #

An email is marked as bounced if a double opt-in email has not received by the recipient’s mail server and returned to the original sender. A bounced email means that your mail has not been delivered, this happens if the email address is invalid.

Also, using Amazon SES, you can track the invalid email and mark them as Bounced. Amazon will track the delivery status of the email and if it failed to reach the recipient’s mail server, it will be marked as Bounced in your audience status. See this doc for learning more about it.

Complained #

If a double opt-in email is received by the recipient’s mail server but the email delivery is rejected by the server’s API.


  1. Once manually deleted, does it allow the subscriber to re-subscribe and receive all the confirmation emails they would have received when they first registered. During testing, it seems those steps don’t repeat themselves after manually deleting a subscriber.

    1. If you manually delete someone, they stay as someone who confirmed email subscriptions (if you have double opt-in turned on). This means when they join your list once again, they join as a subscriber. Hence, they don’t receive any double opt-in emails. If you still want to send them a double opt-in email, you need to manually set their contact status as “Pending” and send the double opt-in email.

  2. Hello there, how can I delete all contact at once, I got quite a huge records to delete at once.
    More than 500K.

  3. Is there a way to set up an automation so that I can:
    Schedule an automatic reminder email to remind them to complete their double opt in if they didn’t complete it based on the first double opt in.
    And Then remove anyone from pending to unsubscribed or trash if they haven’t completed double opt in after a certain amount of time &/or number of reminder emails?

    1. Hi Robin, That’s not possible at this moment. If your contact doesn’t confirm their subscription, you can’t send any email.

  4. in the contact profile details, it give me the option to change the contact from “lead” to “Customer” how can i add my own contact type? it give me the option to change lists, and even change tags, but i dont see an option to change contact type, there is only 2 options “lead” or “customer”.

        1. Hi Krsto, I can’t give you a specific timeframe but we have already started working on some core CRM features. So you can expect these features to be out very soon.

  5. Hi Nazir,

    When I select a contact, I do not see a delete button.

    In Fluent CRM I select contacts, then check the contact I want to delete.
    At this point, I do not see the delete option.

    1. Please scroll down a bit for more bulk actions. We have added two new bulk actions in the latest update and that’s why you won’t see the delete option before you scroll down.

  6. Hi Nazir,
    I’m having an issue with the double-optin email not being sent automatically once the contact has opted-in to my list. The contact remains in the “pending” status, and unless I send the double-optin manually, they don’t get the e-mail and therefore cannot be put in the followup emails.
    Any thoughts?

  7. How can I edit the subscription status label to something more personalized for my business? instead of pending, subscribed unsubscribed bounced, and complained. I want something more personalized. How Can I edit this?
